contract in-house support
Temporary In-house Patent Counsel
I provide support on a short-term basis to assist companies facing legal staffing shortages. Whether due to employee leave, reorganizations, or other expected or unexpected disruptions, such gaps can present serious challenges for companies that rely on patents to protect their market position.
In these situations, companies need an experienced practitioner to maintain and advance their intellectual property strategy. A staffing gap should not leave a company without direction or unable to respond to critical, time-sensitive patent issues. As interim or acting in-house patent counsel, I can maintain existing procedures or recommend improvements, depending on client needs.
This approach ensures that established patent filing and prosecution plans continue uninterrupted, giving company leadership confidence that a temporary staffing shortage will not compromise their long-term patent goals.
Fractional In-house Patent Counsel
Not every company requires full-time in-house patent counsel, but the cost of traditional outside counsel can often be unpredictable or prohibitive for many companies. For such clients, I provide access to experienced patent counsel at a certain – and reasonable – cost.
Throughout my career in private practice, I have served as the sole patent advisor for many clients, acting as a trusted de facto in-house counsel. I work directly with engineering and R&D teams and have a proven ability to translate complex patent strategies into clear, actionable guidance for management.
Depending on a company's needs, I can be engaged for a predetermined period, giving leadership the ability to budget effectively for a wide range of patent services, including any of those described herein. I am also available to assist in evaluating potential outside patent counsel when the company chooses to expand its legal team.
